Mark and I met in 1986, when we were both members of the Adelaide Uni Science Fiction Association and the
Adelaide Uni SCA group (The college of Blessed Herman). We became fast friends almost immediately, and drifted
gradually into coupledom over the next little while. We formalised our relationship in 1988 in a lovely outdoor
ceremony followed by a big mediaeval feast. At the time, there were one or two naysayers who assured us that it
would never last, but we sure showed 'em... Still together after fourteen years, and still going strong!
.
And here is Mark is a slightly more manic moment. This was taken at a joint birthday party for himself (turning
30) and his younger brother (turning 21). Situations like these tend to induce camera proliferation, and since
Mark has no especial enthusiasm for being photographed, he would respond to any approaching Intrepid Photographers
at his party by either hiding behind a menu or gurning ridiculously. In this picture, both of us are getting
into the act.
Mark and I were invited to a party with a Babylon 5 theme a year or so ago.
Given the folk involved, we expected it to be an all-singing all-dancing costuming extravaganza.
However, at the time we were not inclined to spend weeks constructing single-use costumes of Stunning Authenticity
that we knew would be relegated to the back of a cupboard somewhere after the party had ended, never to be seen again.
So we improvised instead. Here we have Mark modelling the Ten-Minute Vorlon costume we came up with. Astonishingly
lifelike, wouldn't you say? (Incidentally, Mark would like to point out that this particular costume is less than optimum if the wearer happens to have a head cold at the time.)
